I am selling an assortment of vintage to antique jewelry and rings which I have hunted for and gathered from around the world. Some examples seen in the last photo - thanks for stopping by!
ABOUT:
I love coming across these sentimental jewels with the AEI motif. This one is reversible! With a star and rivet design on one side and the bold AEI letters rising from the opposite side.
Some say the AEI stands for Amity, Eternity, Infinity. This popular abbreviation was used throughout the Victorian period to send a message of eternal love. Others suggest the AEI comes from the Greek word "aei", meaning for now and forever. I guess whichever way you prefer, it equals the same sentiment. : )
Gah! The Incredible glow with textured matte finish and contrasting high shine letters, and more surprises await inside. Apparently it was a morning locket as there is a name engraved inside with the age and date of 10 March, 1863. It is beautifully hand engraved around the rim with Rome engraved in the center. The opposite panel has a glass pane and deep locket compartment.
Small in size but a nice chubby depth with the most amazing buttery glow to the gold, resembling high carat gold. It is stamped 18k on the loop with the Swedish stamp as well, which is where I found it.
A lot of fun elements on one little special locket.
Antique boxes, chains, props in photos is not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
21mm to the attached loop not including the dangling jump ring by 17mm, and 6.5mm deep. It weighs 3.35g.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
One shallow impression at the top rivet below the loop. Some surface wear, a few shallow ripples to the AEI side but considering age (162 years and counting!) it is still very wearable. Not a super tight closure as a small gap can form once closed, but it does absolutely remain closed while wearing and the hinge is still good, again amazing considering age. Not watertight or recommended for 24/7 wear, as expected for age. A special provenance to a special reversible piece.
Please note that I take some photos / videos in the sunshine because it captures the lovely color and sparkle, but it also highlights the warmth and any surface wear, scratches, abrasions, buildup or inclusions that can catch the light, making these things appear worse than they would with normal day to day wear. : ) Hopefully the pics in all lightning conditions help as they serve as part of the description.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - PDue to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
