ABOUT:
Not your average antique diamond solitaire! The mounting of this ring is just delicious with the scrolled details at the vertical edges of the glowing 18k gold leading up to the excellent quality antique diamond. Still stacks and layers well but with such a wonderful movement!
The finish on the ring is beautiful as well with matte finish in the recesses and high shine in the raised areas.
The uncommon and ornate setting is the perfect complement to the .7 carat antique hand cut old mine cut diamond that is eye clean! We often find pieces from the period topped in silver or platinum, this one is all glowing 18k gold.
Found in the UK with their hallmarks, somewhat worn but you can make out the 18CT for 18k gold.
Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and the pictures can make it difficult to see scale. Antique box is not included.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
Size 7 1/4 slightly snug.
The diamond is about 5.6mm, cushion cut. I wouldn't remove it from the setting but it is around .7 carat.
The piece weighs 2.6 grams. It is 6.3mm north south stands 5.3mm off the finger to the top of the diamond.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Not even a nibble to the diamond. Typical for antique diamonds cut in a much more limited supply, there is slight warmth to the stone, that results in a delicious pale yellow glow in some light, amplified by the yellow gold setting but then facing up brighter. The has exceptional clarity for the period. Even under strong magnification I can't find anything, so this is VS or higher with no damage, not a single nibble or chip. It does have a wider than most frosted girdle, appropriate for the period as it was cut before modern polishing technology, this actually adds to the carat weight giving it more girth in the center.
The stone is very well held but there is some wear to the east and west prongs which are an extension of the shoulders. No immediate concerns but something to keep an eye on over time. The north south prongs have more length.
What a fabulous setting. I'm in love with this one.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
