ABOUT:
Striking Victorian era earrings with a faceted black shield shape, each set with pearls in silver collet settings. I am not certain of the black "stone" as there is no test for it - if they are onyx, glass or perhaps Jet?
But really interesting shape with wonderful coloring.
The ear wires have a catch in the back to hook into.
No hallmarks remain, they test at about 10k, possibly 12k as we sometimes find for the period because it holds a 14k test but lightens. But as American test kits don't have 12k, I am selling as 10k. The gold has a beautiful, rosy patina.
Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
They measure about 25mm top to bottom by 12mm at the widest.
They weigh 3g combined.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Some patina to the silver. Some patina and wear to the pearls but they have a great antique look. Each black stone has one area of deeper scratches / nibbles. One is chipped on the right side / arm but this is hidden, and the other is chipped on the bottom point, but again hidden - because each of these areas is wrapped in the gold bar so you just have to study it to notice the black shows a bit on the unchipped one compared to the other.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
