I am selling an assortment of vintage to antique jewelry and rings which I have hunted for and gathered from around the world. Some examples seen in the last photo - thanks for stopping by!

ABOUT:

I so wanted to keep this piece for myself but it is too large for me so my slithery friend on this bracelet is looking for a new home. Wow is he a sturdy one - over 32 grams of 14k solid gold and set with about 1 1/3 carat of old mine cut diamonds. Nary a ding nor dent because he's so nice and sturdy.

I got this one in Sweden on my recent sourcing trip and it was a lot of fun to read all the excitement for him in the previews. Antique snake jewelry is always a treat but this is the first I've had with the chunky old cut diamonds set into the head and eyes. At the head is a high crowned old mine cut diamond measuring about .65 carat. There are ten additional diamonds set into the eyes and neck, A few of the smaller stones aresome old mine and some old European cut.

Unique and beautiful to add a buttery glow and chunky sparkle to a wriststack. I love the way the tails swirls around the front.

It has a push button clasp in excellent and tight working condition on the side and a dainty safety chain with latch. No hallmarks which is not uncommon in antiques, but was sold to me from a reputable source and tested to confirm. Not to mention the fact that it is set with the 1.3 carat worth of antique diamonds, so at that expense we pretty much always see them set into real gold.

In ancient times, snakes represented the duality of good and evil, as well as being symbols of death and rebirth or immortality, transformation and healing, and even fertility. This motif was highly popularized by Queen Victoria who received a piece from Prince Albert who designed it after the Roman belief that the intertwined snake represented eternal and everlasting love. This design remained popular through the Victorian era and into the Art Nouveau period.

MEASUREMENTS:
It weighs 32.1 grams. It is about 6 3/4 inches around the inside with a tape measure wrapped around it. Inside dimensions are 60mm by 49mm if I measure the distance across the opening in each direction. I have a 5 1/2 inch wrist and it is too large for me. : ( It spins around my wrist and can almost slide off and on my hand without opening. And with the safety chain, it opens to slide over a larger wrist.

The largest diamond on the head is 5.2 by 4.9mm cushion cut with a high crown and about .65 carat alone. The eyes and the additional eight diamonds extending from the head are each about 2.6mm give or take. I would never remove them from the setting for exact weights but totals about 1.3 carat total weight in diamonds.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

I don't prefer to grade my antique diamonds with the Four C's grading scale which came about way later for machine cut diamonds with mathematically perfected facets. The scale does not do antique stones justice as they were expertly hand cut in a much more limited supply compared to the millions of carats of machine cut diamonds made each year now. Their uniqueness and quirks are expected and part of their charm, but I will pass along the grades as I received them from the gemologist on site:
TW-TCr and VS to SI.
The TW-TCr grade is from one of the alternate grading systems used in Europe, representing Top Wesselton (F-G in the GIA Scale) and Top Crystal (I-J in the GIA Scale).

The largest diamond has one flaky carbon spot, slightly eye visible and is otherwise eye clean. The smaller stones have some frosty specks here and there but nothing glaring since they are smaller stones. One of the smaller stones has a triangular flake of loss to the top edge leaving an unpolished area but still appears fully round and complete in the setting. I certainly can't see it with my eyes which are in their forties : )

Some surface wear and patina but in about as good condition as you could ask for a piece of this age with no deep dings or dents. Very sturdy, high quality hand feel.

There is a small / thin seam with a slightly different patina between the tail and clasp where the gold is a slightly different colored hue. This is from the original fabrication of the bracelet, where they connected the piece. This was done in the making and is not damage or a repair, it is just a slightly different hue, smoothed over perfectly. Beautiful coloring, shine and patina. Some surface wear and scratches but functions well with a very snappy and tight clasp. So unique and beautiful.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
