ABOUT:
One of my largest to date with a special antique stone in its all original French antique setting!

A megawatt sparkly original antique diamond ring in ornate fleur de lis crown prongs holding up the exactly 4.07 carat eye clean old European cut diamond. With additional old cut accent stones on each side bringing the total carat weight of the piece to 4.19 carats Tdw.

I purchased this one on a recent inventory trip to France, aligning with my goal to preserve my budget for some special, one of a kind pieces. It belonged to a woman who was a lawyer and a jewelry collector, and after she retired, she decided to sell some pieces from her collection which is how I acquired it.

This special stone displays a better than often found clarity for an antique stone of this size and scale along with a wonderful color and fire, shooting rainbows from within while wearing. It also has an amazing kozibe effect, a fun phenomenon of old cut diamonds and the way their faceting reflects the light, reflecting the open culet around the stone - something to look for in photos! This fiery beauty is just so fun to wear. The antique diamond is completely eye clean in its elegant and classic setting.

Found in France but no hallmarks remain. This is actually common for French pieces as they are marked on the back and often lost during a sizing or from wear. But sold to me from a reputable source in France where the standard is 18k and tested to confirm. The gold has a rosy hue to it. The prongs are crafted in platinum as was customary for the period to set diamonds in a white metal.

The base of the setting also creates a small white halo of platinum around the stone, almost serving as an illusion setting to make the stone appear even bigger by surrounding it with a white metal.

See my website for additional photos. This antique piece is yet sturdy, and ready for regular wear which we love to find in old pieces with antique diamonds in their original settings.

I don't prefer to grade my antique diamonds with the Four C's grading scale which came about way later for machine cut diamonds with mathematically perfected facets. The scale does not do antique stones justice as they were expertly hand cut to their best advantage, in a much more limited supply compared to the millions of carats of machine cut diamonds made each year now. Their uniqueness and quirks are expected and part of their charm. My items do very well without paperwork as I describe everything in detail so there are never any surprises, so there is no certification included. However I will pass along the information as I received it:

At some point, the stone was removed from the setting. It was weighed loose so we know the carat weight is accurate. I was told that the stone was evaluated but that the certificate was misplaced so I have the envelope that the stone was housed in for testing which has the diamond's specs written on it. This is common to find (the diamond envelope with hand written notes) except usually we have the certificate to match the notations on the envelope but in this case, I have only the envelope and no formal paperwork.

4.07 carats - without a doubt. Measured loose and I measured again while set to confirm.
LM in color - I agree and it's my fave! It has a lovely slight warmth we antique enthusiasts love to find in our old cut diamonds, having been sourced during the period from mines that typically produced warmer rough.
SI1 - This.... I'm not seeing it. The stone has zero carbon, no crystal formations, no noteworthy wisps or feathers, even under very strong lit magnification there is almost nothing to be found except for maybe one or two of the tiniest needle inclusions. I would have graded it higher to be honest, in the VS range. It is Completely Eye Clean. So for what it's worth, I just wanted to mention that.

The envelope also states: "Moyenne". This is one of the words used on French diamond certification to rate the level of fluorescence of the stone - "Moyenne" translating to average or medium.

Especially considering the age of the stone, it is very lively and sparkly, not dull or lifeless in any way. The rainbows shooting from the fiery stone are visible even in ambient light. The frosted girdle that we look for to authenticate its age is medium in thickness to slightly thicker at some of the points where the facet edges reach the girdle. There are no large inclusions and really nothing detectable at all in that regard. The condition of the stone is also amazing with no notable damage, just the tiniest flea bite to one area which was probably done when the stone was removed (one of the reasons I wish it hadn't been removed at all).

I love the color. As seen in the photos, it seems to warm up at some angles but then it faces up quite white in other lighting conditions which I find quite fun. Hopefully the photos in various lighting condition help as they are a true representation of how the piece responds to sun and ambient light. It's certainly one of my best in terms of quality and to me, it wears quite large in scale with the 4.07 carats, but I suppose that is a subjective opinion : ).

Certainly one of my very best all time in terms of size and quality.

Antique box with interior lid graphics is included. The box is not original to the piece but one from my own collection. These boxes are collectible and sought after by us antique jewelry addicts and I thought this piece deserved special housing : )

Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.

MEASUREMENTS:
Size 5 1/2. But sizable with good prongs to enable sizing. Usually within 2 sizes is a recommended guide but best to discuss with your local jeweler who would be doing the work to determine their comfort level. The ring does not appear to have ever been sized in the past.

The diamond measures about 9.9mm with a deep pavilion, quite a chunky cut. We know the stone was weighed when it was removed to measure 4.07 carats. I also calculated the measurements of the stone while set to the same result.

The side stones are about 2.5mm each, adding an additional approximately .12 carat to the total weight of the ring (4.19 Tdw).

The piece weighs 4.8 grams.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

The prongs are excellent, she is ready for daily wear. There are some tool marks to the inside edges of the prongs from when the stone was removed, then reinserted and polished prior to my acquiring.

Exceptional fire to this diamond. One of the best solitaires I have ever sourced, I am in love with the color and the classic antique setting.

One of the small side accent stones is frosty from natural inclusions but it is small so it is not glaring. It's just meant to add a glint of sparkle and to be honest it's hard to see past the beauty of the large center stone to notice them much.

Feel free to request more videos as I have several.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )

Apologies for the wordy description : ). I always spend a lot of time in my listings to make sure my buyers know exactly what they are getting.
