ABOUT:

Versatile antique "star" cutout gypsy band with chunky 5mm warm / pale yellow old mine cut diamond. Lovely coloring and sparkle with the cool star pattern creating the setting for the diamond.

I love old cut diamonds with coloring like this and it is made even better by the delicious patina to the setting. This French piece is crafted in rosy 18k gold but the carved recesses of the star bezel are a contrasting satiny yellow gold. It really makes the star pattern pop. And the piece is substantial weighing over 8 grams so it has a quality hand feel.

This one is substantial enough to wear alone but also layers well with other pieces. The warm diamond has a chunky cushion shape. The coloring is subtle, appearing quite yellow in some light and more soft white in others (you might compare it against the other stones in the group pics to get an idea of color?). This coloring was often chosen intentionally by diamond cutters of the time who hand cut these stones long before the "Four C's" and machine cut diamonds came in to play, and are also sought after by antique addicts / collectors : ). This is also because diamonds during this period were often sourced from mines that produced warmer diamonds as a whole.

The gypsy ring was incredibly popular during the Victorian era and its timeless design remains an ever favored and wearable choice for today. Sturdy hand feel and a subtle antique sparkle with the warm hues to the diamond.

Antique box is not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.

No hallmarks remain which is actually common for French pieces as they are marked in the back and often lost during a sizing or from wear. But sold to me from a reputable source in France where the standard is 18k and tested to confirm.

SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:

Size 6 3/4. It is 8.5mm north to south on the finger and 4.3mm tall with the thicker gold domed face. The diamond is about 5mm. I would never remove it from the setting so exact measurements are unknown but estimated around 0.57 carat.

The piece weighs a sturdy 8.3 grams.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

All my pieces are pre owned and in estate condition. Typical antique diamond with some small faint natural inclusions. Only very slightly visible (and not eye visible at all to my eyes which are in their forties! :) The yellow hue is subtle, it has a lovely warmth. No dark carbon or glaring inclusions. The shank is sturdy with some surface wear. Evidence of a sizing to the back with a difference in patina on the inside. There are no dark spots to the gold, it was just difficult to photograph because it is so shiny and mirrored that it reflects its surroundings.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
