ABOUT:

The sweetest little sweetie! An elegant Victorian oval antique rose cut solitaire in open back setting with ribbed shank and basket setting. It holds the diamond up so that it can catch the light. And that sweetie little rose cut is a dutch rose cut where the diamond has some domed depth coming to a tiny point at the top : ). Like a chunky little oval disco ball, but still timeless and minimalist in design. The ring shoulders have little beaded rivet details very subtly running down the sides.

These are are sought after as it can be hard to find original antiques with rose cuts in open backed settings, such settings making them easier to wear than the closed and foiled back settings.

Larger finger size than we can often find on antiques. Found in France. No hallmarks remain which is actually common for French pieces as they are marked in the back and often lost during a sizing or from wear, and this one has been sized. But sold to me from a reputable source in France where the standard is 18k and tested to confirm. Gorgeous rich antique patina.

Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.

MEASUREMENTS:
Size 8 1/2.

This could be a candidate for sizing, but best to discuss with your local jeweler who would be doing the work, to see how far they would feel comfortable in sizing (sometimes you can email or text them photos for feedback). Usually they say within 2 sizes is a good guide and they often times make the shank more oval to accommodate sizing without bending the ring face as much.

The diamond is 4.8x3.7mm. Exact carat weight is unknown as I would not remove it but faces up equivalent to maybe around a third of a carat?

The ring face is 6mm north south and stands 4.3mm off the finger to the top of the diamond.
The ring weight is  2.1 grams.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

The sweetie is definitely an all original antique - but no damage to the stone. The facets are unpolished as it was cut before such technology existed. Beautiful color and reflectivity but typical for antique stones it does have some natural inclusions. A crystal formation on one side that can sometimes catch the light which has some gray carbon within it, and a needle or frosty speck here or there. The crystal is eye visible when it catches the light but the rest are slightly eye visible if you are seeking them out. The carbon is not super inky or glaring, this stone is actually quite full of life.

Typical for antiques, there are some worn prongs. Six are long, 2 are completely worn back and two are serviceable but barely. This is common and expected for age but for daily wear as an engagement ring, one might want to consider re-tipping the ones that are completely worn. Recommend finding someone with a laser welder and asking them to do the minimum possible vs. overworking the piece to make it "like new". Most of my buyers prefer original condition and gentler wear so I am selling it as is.

Evidence of a sizing to the back where there is a tiny seam not visible while wearing.

Please also note that I take some photos / videos in the sunshine because it captures the lovely color and sparkle, but it also highlights any surface wear, scratches, abrasions, buildup or inclusions that can catch the light, making these things appear worse than they would with normal day to day wear. : ) Hopefully the pics in all lightning conditions help as they serve as part of the description.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : ) There are no dark spots to the gold, it was just difficult to photograph because it is so shiny and mirrored that it reflects its surroundings including the green trees out the window.
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
