ABOUT:

Not your average antique diamond solitaire! The mounting of this ring is just delicious with scrolled details at each shoulder that have a glowing patina and beautiful texture to the gold. Still stacks and layers well but with such a wonderful movement!

The uncommon and ornate setting is the perfect complement to really nice quality half carat antique eye clean diamond. I love antique diamonds, even those with inclusions or hues typical for the time, because some of those were still among the best available in the market during that period, and were expertly cut by hand to enhance their best characteristics. So I don’t often like to compare antique stones against modern grading standards - BUT This diamond, for an old stone has particularly lovely fire reflecting a noticeable flash with the other colors of the rainbow. Even in ambient light, she glitters. It also has a very bright white color so even though the stone was made long before the 4 C's existed, it is a wonderful quality stone. These special antique diamonds were and still are in limited supply compared to the millions of carats of machine cut diamonds made each year.

With prongs in good shape making this beauty ready to wear for engagement or as a gorgeous stacker.

Found in France with a goldsmith stamp and their hallmark for 18k gold.

Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and the pictures can make it difficult to see scale. Antique box is not included.

SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:

Size 7 3/4
The diamond is about 5mm, cushion cut. I wouldn't remove it from the setting but it is around .5 carat.
The piece weighs 2.7 grams. It stands 5mm off the finger.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

Not even a nibble to the diamond. Also uncommon for antique diamonds, it is eye clean. With only the faintest tiny speck inclusions seen under strong magnification. The shank is very sturdy. As expected for age, there is a little wear to the prongs so that is something to keep an eye on over time (as in years and years of time). But as is it is ready for daily wear with the stone secure.

What a wonderful stone and fabulous setting. I'm in love with this one.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
