ABOUT:
Over 2 carats - Tall and impactful but imperfect and sold as is!
This is a super fun antique ring that is dramatic to layer and stack but the center stone has some damage to the Underside, so please read notes carefully as it is priced accordingly, sold as is, no returns, the item being exactly as it appears in photos. Please see my website for additional pics! : ). Everyone I have shown this ring too has pulled it out amidst my large to do pile so again it is an attention drawer, standing out in the crowd of other pieces, but just has some quirks. : )
So many fun elements to this ring with the three natural antique diamonds set in squared off prongs. As a unique design element, the 1 carat center stone is situated as a square with prongs on the top and bottom left and right corners. While the flanking stones, half carat each + are set the opposite way, situated as a diamond with the prongs at the north, south, east west ends. So it has a fun geometry and the setting is TALLLLLL. Which is another thing that makes it impactful, holding the three stones up as a fun and flashy geometric stacker. I love it in a mixed metal stack with a chunky yellow gold band.
Really wonderful sparkle and presence But... the underside of the center stone has shallow shards of loss along the pavilion. The stone still faces up mostly round and complete but those flakes of loss leave an unpolished area on about 1/4 of the stone, which then reflects around the stone giving it a heavily frosted appearance all through. The side stones also have inclusions and despite the fact that there is no carbon, no inky spots, no dingy hues, the stones have quite a nice fire (they were shooting little rainbows while I was photographing), but def note they are quite frosty. So despite it being still bright and sparkly, this is not one for those seeking perfection in the Four C's. For those antique diamond enthusiasts like me who embrace the quirks, this one offers a bang for your buck, getting the two carats in the fun and chunky antique setting with the asymmetrically set stones at this price. More diamond notes below.
Found in Paris with numerical hallmark inside as used in Europe, in this case 750 for 18k gold. The base of the prongs are closed but it is not a closed back piece in that there are openings between the prongs to the undersides of the stones so it can get wet, be submerged, cleaned, etc.
Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Antique box is not included.
MEASUREMENTS:
It is a size 5 3/4. It weighs a sturdy 6 grams.
The largest center diamond is about 6.7mm and around a carat. Depths vary and I would never remove them from the antique setting for an exact carat weight, so this is an estimate, but it calculates out to over a carat, then taking some away for the loss to the underside. All that to say it estimates to 1 carat and faces up larger.
The side diamonds are each about 5.2mm and over half a carat each for a total carat weight of over 2 carats.
The ring face is 6.7mm wide north to the south on the finger and it stands a tall 8.1mm tall off the finger. The three diamonds span about 18mm across the finger.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
See notes above about the center stone. Again it faces up mostly round / complete with some nibbles to the girdle and small chips making it juuuuust slightly out of round if you are really studying that outside edge and seeking it out. With most all the damage being to the underside it faces up quite large. But the unpolished area reflecting around the stone gives the center diamond an all over frosty appearance, like walking over a frozen Minnesota lake and seeing the icy shards. One of the flanking stones also has large areas of frosty inclusions that reflect around the majority of the stone. The third stone, while not appearing overall frosty, has two areas of indented natural inclusions that carry up to the surface leaving small creases.
But - It's still antique, still big and still sparkly and bright! A bit of wear to the prongs but they are large and have enough overlapping each corner that none of the stones move at all. Despite the frosty inclusions none are cracked so nothing affecting the stability of the stones (ie. they won't randomly shatter while wearing : ). The shank is sturdy and on the thicker side all the way around.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
