ABOUT:
This is such a fun bauble to wear! With an uncommon combination of the center oval opal surrounded by a halo of champagne to light brown colored old mine cut diamonds.
I love diamonds with hues and colors above the more common whites. This large and sturdy vintage piece features the old cut diamonds propped up around the opal in the very tall platinum setting. Makes a fun stacker with gorgeous color and sparkle of the diamonds contrasting with the rainbows of colors emitting from the opal.
We suspect the diamonds are antique but the setting appears more retro so it may be later than the stones. It's possible it was made this way in the Art Deco period, but it may also be an heirloom piece where someone took theirs and/or a relative's old diamonds from various pieces and had them all reset. Certainly an uncommon piece - It's very fun to wear.
Found in Paris, a faint hallmark strike is visible at the back but not very decipherable. Tests as platinum and white gold on a Kee tester.
Antique box is not included. Please note the detailed measurements that I always provide, as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures where I am required to show zoomed in detail.
MEASUREMENTS:
Ring is currently about a size 7 3/4. It weighs a sturdy 5.7 grams.
The twelve diamonds in the halo are about 3mm each give or take (2.8 to 3.2mm). I would not remove them for an exact carat weight and depths vary but some quite chunky cuts, estimates to over 1.5 carat total weight in diamonds.
The ring face is 19x13mm. It stands 9.3mm off the finger.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. All the stones are very secure making this ready for regular wear. Just a worn prong here or there to keep an eye on over time. Eight stones have the one worn outside prong from age and wear but they are still held in place by the four other prongs that are very sturdy.
The opal shows wear with a more matte finish at the surface instead of the glossy sheen it would have original had, but it is still colorful despite being a whiter stone, sending orange, blue, green flashes.
Typical antique diamonds with some natural inclusions but this is less eye visible, being smaller stones. In some light the stones appear warm but indirect sunlight they really richen up to show the champagne and light brown hues. If you look at the video you can kind of compare the hues as the ring below holds white diamonds and the one beside it holds a fancy dark brown.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
