ABOUT:
Imagine my surprise when casually browsing a Minnesota antique mall to see these jumping out at me from the case. Perpignan garnet dangle earrings - usually I am the one who brings these to Minnesota - tee hee, because it is my personal mission to get everyone to be as excited about these special stones as I am : )
These are a bit of a mix because the ear wires were later additions, so the dangles must have been a component from another piece but they are ready for wear.
My favorite stone in all the world - the Perpignan garnet! These special jewels are trademarked and made only in that area of Catalonia France. There have only ever been a small handful of makers in all the world at a time that were trained in the multi step process of creating these special pieces.
The dangles are in 18k gold with no hallmarks as they come from another piece. The later ear wires are stamped 14k.
Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Antique box is not included.
MEASUREMENTS:
26mm top to bottom including the ear wire
15mm top to bottom for the pendant parts alone.
6.2mm wide
The pair weighs 1.5 grams.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
As mentioned the ear wires are later additions. You can see signs of the conversion that the teardrops came from something else as there raised spots to the gold collets on each. Some surface wear to the stones but nothing to make them dull or giving a matte finish. These richly hued stones still somehow have the ability to sparkle. Difference in patina between the antique components and the later ear wires.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
