ABOUT:

We call this the 50/50 ring because it is set with a 1 carat (approximately) natural old cut sapphire that has a natural color block in it making the bi-color stone part sapphire blue and part lighter lemon lime green to greenish blue. Of course the color blocking isn't half and half, and seems to swirl around the stone somewhat, but it is quite fascinating and fun to wear. I would say the stone reads as blue for the most part but the lighter area is eye visible in all lighting conditions so it's just the hues that seem to change based on lighting. At some angles it appears to have a light warm yellow spot in it, but then in sunlight and lit magnification the green portion really presents itself.

A pop of unique color and sparkle for your ring stack. It would also make an interesting alternative engagement ring as it is certainly a one of its kind stone with its fun coloring. Sapphires are a naturally durable stone and this is made more special by the old cut, antique setting and rarity of the bi color stone. Hopefully the pics in all lightning conditions help as they serve as part of the description.

Found in France but I believe it is British in origin. The place I purchased it from told me it was an Australian Sapphire. Old 15CT stamp inside for 15k gold. The gold is quite rosy warm from antique patina. Quite lovely in a classic solitaire setting with bezel set gorgeous stone in a sturdy shank with slightly beveled shoulders.

Antique box is not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.

MEASUREMENTS:
Size: 7 1/4
Weight: 4g
Ring face north south measurement: 8mm
Height off the finger: 5.8mm
The sapphire is about 6.5mm and around 1 carat. This is an estimation as I would not remove the stones from the setting for exact measurements.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

The stone moves in the bezel and clicks when you tap it but is secure. Natural inclusions throughout including some linear silk / needle rutile inclusions create a chevron pattern within the sapphire. Under lit magnification they can catch the light and reflect out almost like a star sapphire but with just linear needles of glow instead of the starburst shape. And then some icy inclusions as well within the stone. It is a very beautiful natural stone.

Some of the facets around the outside edge have a cloudy surface, almost like water dried leaving a calcium film. This is seen mostly under magnification but you may be able to detect it in the photos with the 20 times zoom when the light reflects off the facet just right. I did clean it but I couldn't get that to completely clear away and I didn't want to risk scratching the stone. I just always try to be up front about every little thing I can find but it is an amazing stone.

A few nicks at the corners where the facets meet. Please also note that I take some photos / videos in the sunshine because it captures the lovely color and sparkle, but it also highlights any surface wear, scratches, abrasions, buildup or inclusions that can catch the light, making these things appear worse than they would with normal day to day wear. : ) Hopefully the pics in all lightning conditions help as they serve as part of the description.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
