ABOUT:
Once I was driving with one of my three brothers as adults and a little rabbit scurried across the road. I turned to him and asked, "If mom were here right now, what would she say?"
He paused a moment and then answered me: "Umm... the little bun bun?" Of course he was exactly right.
So that is what I always think of when I see this cutie patootie - the little bun bun! My mom's happy sing song voice and the fact that even as adults we have those childhood memories that align. I'm pretty sure she still responds the same to this day when she sees one, I'll have to pay attention the next time we are together.
This antique brooch I believe actually has two bunnies, the one diamond encrusted, the other a little pearl with ears I think representing a baby bun bun. Or maybe it's a carrot or turnip of some sort that he's approaching for a snack?
A lot of us antique jewelry addicts use brooches as extenders or connectors. This one has the option to convert it permanently to a pendant, either just the diamond encrusted bunny alone, or as a bar pendant the way it rests on a surface with the baby. These antique diamond encrusted animalitos are always super popular. I should know, I've been looking for a similar one but with a mouse for Years! I will let the buyer work with their jeweler to style is as they wish.
No hallmarks remain but sold to me as gold and silver and tested to confirm. The diamonds are set in silver, the back of the bunny is in 18k gold, and the pin parts are silver and 14k gold, I assume for strength.
Chain and charms in photos not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
MEASUREMENTS:
The larger bunny is 12x11mm. The bar is 30mm long.
It weighs 3 grams.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Typical antique diamonds with some warm hues and faint natural inclusions. A few appearing a bit frosty. They tend to always look this way. Nothing glaring as they are small, they provide a wonderful antique sparkle. Sweet little ruby eye too.
With the pin back, it won't lie flat against the decollette so it would have to be converted to wear at center unless one uses the trick we often use to add charms to the pin post which adds some weight to hold it up and outward. We also wear them to the side.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
