ABOUT:
A combo toi et moi and halo ring! The two center old European cuts are the star of the show, measuring 6.3mm / .9 and 1 carat each with a bright and fiery sparkle. These are surrounded by a halo of ten brilliant cut diamonds with a marquise diamond at each shoulder rounding out this unique glittery setting for a total carat weight of around 3 carats.
Sturdy shank and setting. French hallmark for 18k white gold, platinum and a goldsmith stamp. I am assuming this is an heirloom piece where someone took their or a relative's old diamonds and had them all reset into a newer setting with the combination of old cut and brilliant cuts. It is a unique piece with the mix of diamond shapes and cuts set into the vintage scalloped halo setting. Clearly a custom, one of a kind vintage piece.
Adding to its desirability, the prongs are in excellent shape which we love to find on preowned jewelry, making this beauty ready for regular wear.
Antique box is not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
MEASUREMENTS:
Size: 6
Weight: a sturdy 6.5 grams
Ring face: 19x14mm
Height off finger: 7mm.
The two largest Old European cut diamonds are 6.3mm each, one weighing about 1 carat and the other about .9 carat. The ten round brilliants are about 2.7mm each and the two marquise diamonds are about 4.5x2.5mm.
Estimated total carat weight just under 3 carats. I do not remove stones from their settings for exact measurements so this is an estimate.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Just one worn outside prong to one of the smallest stones but all are very securely set making this beauty ready for daily wear.
The stones are quite fiery, especially the old European cuts emitting a strong sparkle even in ambient light, compared to many antique stones with a gentler sparkle. They do each have eye visible inclusions, no dark carbon but large crystal inclusions giving some icy layers - one stone having it on one area of a about 1/3 of the stone on one outside edge, and the other having them scattered throughout the stone. Sorrows sorrows but it is priced accordingly for this reason getting a higher carat weight of antique stones cut in much more limited supply compared to the millions of carats of machine cut diamonds made each year now. Their uniqueness and quirks are expected and part of their charm.
The two largest stones each have some nibbles to the inside edge but this is seen only under magnification and they appear complete / round to the eye. No real damage to any of the stones. A faint frosty inclusion here or there to the smaller stones not eye visible. A better than most sparkle to the piece overall.
There is some buildup in the setting I could not clear out so I'll give it another soak and some time in the ultrasonic since the prongs are in such good shape. One marquise stone appears warmer than the other, again from some buildup inside.
Very sturdy setting, lots of sparkle, unique piece!
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
