Toi et Moi French ANTIQUE .4 Carat Old Mine Cut DIAMOND 18k Rose Gold Stacker Double Band

ABOUT:
A timeless French classic - 18k rose gold double band toi et moi (you & me) ring. It is set with old mine cut diamonds, around .2 carat each for .4 carat total weight. Layers well with other pieces.

The tradition of giving toi et moi rings to represent the love between two people dates back centuries, but the style was brought to the attention of a wider audience when Napoleon Bonaparte proposed to Joséphine de Beauharnais with one. Other famous rings include the toi et moi given to Jacqueline Onassis by John F Kennedy in 1953, but the popularity of this two-part style of ring was at its peak during the Edwardian and Belle Époque periods.

I acquired this in France although no hallmarks remain as they are frequently lost in sizing due to their location of stamping on the back of the shank. Sold to me as 18k and platinum from a reputable source and tested to confirm. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from the pics.

MEASUREMENTS:
The ring is a size 6 1/2 on my mandrel.

The ring face is 8mm north south and 5.2mm off the finger. Each diamond is about .2 carat.
The ring weight is 2.7 grams.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

Typical antique diamonds, one with a warmer hue. The other has a frosty appearance with natural inclusions throughout and an area with quite a few nibbles and flakes of loss which may have been the result of inclusions carrying up to the surface. Not glaring when wearing but eye visible. Quite a few worn prongs so this one needs gentler special occasion wear or would need to have some of the prongs re-tipped for more regular wear, priced accordingly and sold as is so you'd want to check with your jeweler prior to purchasing. The wear is primarily to one of the two settings, which has 4 good prongs remaining but the others are worn back, some almost completely. Edge of shank is a bit blunt from age and wear.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : ) There are no dark spots to the gold, it was just difficult to photograph because it is so shiny and mirrored that it reflects its surroundings including the green trees out the window.
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
