I am selling an assortment of vintage to antique jewelry and rings which I have hunted for and gathered from around the world. Some examples seen in the last photo - thanks for stopping by!
ABOUT:
Beautiful French antique 18k gold ring topped in platinum holding a 1.28 carat center old European cut diamond as the star of the show. The swirling bypass band leads up to a halo of 30 rose cuts set into this turbillon setting where the diamond encrusted top encircles the larger center diamond. Sturdy center prongs, the piece is crafted in 18k gold with the prongs and diamond settings topped in platinum as was customary for the period to set diamonds in white metal. Beautiful movement drawing attention to the bright and fiery center stone.
Very popular and very French design from the late Victorian period - the name translates in English to 'twirler' or 'twister', due to its swirling design. Rings of this style were often given during the 19th century as a betrothal or engagement ring.
French hallmarks on the on the back of shank for 18k and platinum. Elegant piece, perfect for stacking to add some movement and sparkle : ) This one is the largest I've had with the size of the center stone.
Antique boxes, props, mice, dishes ; ) not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
MEASUREMENTS:
Size 9, it should be sizable to an extent, usually they say within 2 sizes is a good guide but best to discuss with your local jeweler who would be doing the work as opinions vary with modern jewelers working on antiques. With the little rose cuts set into the band, one wouldn't want to bend the ring face too overly much but there are tricks to avoid that as well.
Ring face is 13mm north to south and it stands 6.5mm off the finger. It weighs 4.45 grams.
Diamond is about 6.6mm and a chunky cut, it estimates to around 1.28 carat with the 30 rose cuts adding on to that, heading up towards 1.5 carat total weight, although the rose cuts are tiny, most around 1mm. I would not remove the stones for exact measurements so this is an estimate.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition, especially considering age. One rose cut is a replacement, with an antique rose cut diamond but you can see a little bead of platinum added in that area. There is a repair to one point of the swirls butting up to the center stone where you can again see a little bead of platinum on the top and gold on the bottom, and a little stamped circular detail to try and blend the texture of the beaded detail in that area. This is not super apparent while wearing but it is evident under magnification, and to the eye appears just slightly less crisp in design compared to the rest of the ring. Although for me, I have a hard time seeing past the center stone.
This one has a particularly bright color and an excellent sparkle. Typical for antique diamonds, it has a crystal needle inclusion off the culet, one carbon speck and then two crystal specks that are right at the surface. These can sometimes catch the light but all the inclusions are overall quite small, only slightly eye visible if you are seeking them out. Prongs for the center stone are in great shape with only one worn back and the other seven well surrounding the stone so this beauty could enjoy regular wear, although the tiny rose cuts set into the band show wear around that area. Typical rough and frosty tiny rose cuts, some of the warmth is due to buildup behind the settings due to the small openings, so another gentle soak and cleaning would brighten those but I don't like to over clean or ultrasonic my antique pieces with small stones.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
I would be delighted if you'd follow me in my shop. Thanks for stopping by!
