ABOUT:

One of my personal favorites from this week's drop with a unique fabrication and coloring. I thought about keeping it because it makes such a great stacker with the wonderful antique look of the bead rivet details on the north and south ends of the setting and at the ring shoulders. Chrysoberyls with their pastel green color are not all that frequent for me to come by in my hunting.

Gorgeous pale green and purple five stone band with four old cut chrysoberyl gems and a center cabochon amethyst. The chrysoberyls are a flatter cut with the amethyst doming out a bit higher to catch the light beautifully and glow from within.

The fabrication with the closed back and foiled setting is typical of the Georgian period but the colorway gives me pause. This green and purple combo was most commonly seen during the late Victorian period to early 1900s during the suffrage movement. Certainly an antique, it was sold to me as Georgian so it's possible the color combo was just a personal choice that happened to later be associated with suffragette jewelry.

Closed back setting with foil behind the old cut chrysoberyl stones. This was a popular one in previews as a unique and special stacker.

No hallmarks remain, tests at 18k gold.

Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Antique box is not included.

MEASUREMENTS:
Size 7.
Each of the gems are 4-5mm in diameter tapering slightly towards the ends.

The piece weighs 2.3 grams.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

Some cloudy spots from age to the foil backing. These closed back settings should avoid getting wet. But overall a nice reflectivity shooting light from behind the old cut chrysoberyl. It does still reflect as I look at it in low light but can see the cloudiness more when I study it under magnification looking through the stones.

A few nicks and a bit of spotting behind the amethyst which is less visible due to its richer hue. The gems are actually in better than most condition when it comes to abrasions as we often see them with a dull or matte finish from surface wear and with these, a lovely sheen and polish still remains. There is one shallow area of loss to the girdle edge of one of the smallest end chrysoberyl stones. It tucks in against the inside of the bezel so it still fills the setting for the most part but appears just slightly out of round when you study it up close. Some patina and wear to the setting most notably to the beaded detail at each shoulder that is not as crisp as it once was but the settings are secure and the stones are well held. Beautiful

Gorgeous color with a bit of crinkling and separation of color from age to the foil back setting, but lovely to find that there is no rust or muddy appearance as can often occur with foil backs. Still a very detectable red to the foil. The stone has an amazing color and a nice sheen but the table facets have a matte finish from wear.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )

I enjoy making my customers happy and matching unique pieces with new homes. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions! It means a lot to me that you are visiting my shop! : )
