UNIQUE Custom Antique Elongated Old Mine Rose Cut DIAMONDS 18k Gold Screw Back Stud EARRINGS

Well let me tell ya, I look at antique diamonds all day every day and these are unique ones! The antique diamonds have a custom cut that I can't really even name. The backs are flat like rose cuts, but the tops are more like old mine cuts - with a large, elongated table facet. Below the large table is a single row of long, triangular scissor cut facets around the outside edge giving them a soft antique sparkle.

The look is similar to a rose cut, but rose cuts dome without a table facet so it some sort of combination of cutting styles. And while they are elongated in shape, they are completely organic, sort of a freeform rectangular cushion cut. Certainly hand cut, as diamond cutters at the time used their personal knowledge, taste and expertise to enhance each diamond. It is always fun to find when they are uniquely cut!

Very sweet and minimalist / dainty (please note the measurements). They are small but mighty in their interest! Set in 18k yellow gold with screw backs that tighten all the way to the back.

I purchased these in France. Both the posts and the screw backs have French hallmarks for 18k gold, fortunately not affecting the threading of the screw back posts which still function well.

Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos.

SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
They are dainty.
About 4.5 by 3.7mm for each stone, one with more depth than the other, but both with flat backs and no pavilions so it is not possible to calculate carat weight without removing them to weight. Like all stones with flat backs they have a lower carat weight but face up spreadier / larger than they are - appearing as around .3 carat each by millimeter.

The pair weigh just 1.15 grams combined.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

Freeform in shape. They have very large frosted girdles, one with a rougher edge, and a few tiny nibbles here or there not really eye visible because they are small and the stones are well surrounded in the prongs. Eye clean with no glaring inclusions. The settings are open backed in that the diamonds are suspended in the prongs, but rather than the setting having an open circle below / behind stones, it is a flat disk of gold - this gives an appearance of enhanced warmth to the stones as you can look through the large table facets of the flat back diamonds, through to the gold setting below. But again, they are not closed back or foiled.

The screw backs spin quite freely without a ton of tension but the threaded posts are still sturdy and secure so they don't slip or slide. They have a little hinged "handle" to the screw backs, so that you can flip that to the side and screw them in tightly, all the way to the back of the earring if desired. Hard to explain, a unique fabrication.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
