ABOUT:
I try to acquire as many of these French Belle Epoque garland rings as I can find because they are so ornate and popular, they tend to fly. This is a unique one with the glorious center oval accented by rose cut diamonds in each corner of the halo. Crisp bow and forget me not flower design and the added detail of flared shoulders with ball rivet details. I get a lot of requests to source these, too many to keep track of and I've never had one like this.
Found in France, the delicious gold work is a beautiful accompaniment to the gorgeous opal that is light in color with strong green flecks along with reflections of the other colors of the rainbow. In some light it really showed blue to the camera, but for the most part it appears more white with green as I study it now. Very striking piece with the large opal offered in better than most condition.
Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Antique box is not included.
HALLMARKS:
French hallmarks for 18k gold with goldsmith stamp. It has a rich and glowing, buttery yellow gold patina with rosy highlights from the antique patina. Special fabrication.
MEASUREMENTS:
Currently measures a size 7 1/2, slightly over but does not reach 7 3/4. It weighs a sturdy 4.65 grams - this one is more substantial than the other one I have. Ring face is 18mm north to south. The opal is about 13x6mm.
CONDITION NOTES:
The opal has a very nice sheen compared to many with just a few tiny nicks or surface scratches seen under strong magnification so it is in better than most condition. It moves slightly in the bezel but is secure. Typical antique rose cut diamonds, they actually read warmer than they really are, it's just hard to reach the small openings behind them to perfectly clean them but they add a nice glint of sparkle.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
