ABOUT:
How fun is this setting! Certainly one of a kind, the large and sturdy prongs flare out giving the ring a maximalist architectural quality and wow what an exceptional old mine cut diamond!
This extra chunker diamond is eye clean with an excellent rainbow fire and sparkle and measures about 2.4 carats. It's propped up in that unique setting to sit on the hand in a sort of sunburst pattern, the pointed prongs making the ring face even larger than the already nice sized diamond. It takes up quite a lot of real estate on the finger!
The diamond is an original antique with all the correct trademarks of being an unaltered oldie. : ) The setting while definitely vintage, is later than the stone, it's a design I've not seen before so I'm not exactly sure when in the vintage period it was crafted, but certainly an antique stone in a vintage setting.
And those unique pointed claw prongs are nice and long holding the stone super securely on all sides so this one is ready for every day wear.
The height and ring face makes it an impactful stacker. I like wearing it with a yellow gold band because I love mixing metals.
Found in Paris on my recent inventory trip with French hallmarks for 18k white gold and platinum.
Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
Size 6.5 on my mandrel, should be sizable to a decent extent with the prongs in such great shape, best to discuss with the person doing the work to determine their comfort level as to how far. The ring face is 12.9mm north south by 12.3mm east west measuring prong to prong. It stands 8.3mm tall off the finger. It weighs 4.6 grams.
I do not remove my stones from their antique settings for exact measurements but the diamond measures 8.2x8.1mm and measures a little over 2.4 carats. This is an estimate taking measurements while set.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
This antique diamond has a better clarity than most. Even under magnification it is crystal clear so while I don't take apart my pieces for certification, and my items do very well without paperwork, it is estimated at VS in clarity. Even under strong magnification there is nothing to be found but the slightest pinpoints if anything, difficult to even seek out with the amazing Kozibe effect of the antique stone.
It does have some faint polishing marks to the pavilion facets. We antique jewelry addicts would be loathe to alter or "fix" this because it isn't in any way a flaw. Rather it is trademark of this stones antique heritage and serves us well in this day and age to provide authenticity to the actual age of the stone. These faint, microscopic lines are seen under magnification across some of the pavilions facets because the stone was cut and polished before modern machine cutting was invented.
As is typical for antique stones which were cut during a period when the mines in use produced warmer rough, the diamond does have a warm hue that varies depending on the lighting. With the expertise of the artisan creating the hand cut diamond, they used their skills to cut them to face up brighter and cut them to their best advantage. Estimates to around K-M in color.
No damage to the diamond at all and the prongs are long and secure for every day wear but the stone can shift slightly due to the organic shape of the diamond. This could likely be tightened if desired and there is no danger of the stone coming free whatsoever.
Some faint yellow gold glow to the very back of the shank. There's no seam or solder marks so it could just be wear to the white gold, it's not really seen while wearing. Also note that the unique prongs are a bit "edgy" on the edges and can be felt when you drag your hand across it. This is the fabrication of the ring and not any fault or condition issue, just how it was made but I thought to mention it. It sits up tall enough that it in no way rubs against the adjacent fingers.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
