VICTORIAN Antique 14k Gold 1.9 Carat Old Mine Cut DIAMOND Cluster Daisy Dangle Linear Drop EARRINGs
VICTORIAN Antique 14k Gold 1.9 Carat Old Mine Cut DIAMOND Cluster Daisy Dangle Linear Drop EARRINGs
ABOUT:
Timeless, super sparkly antique dangle earrings with a cluster of old mine cut diamonds below a linear post. Each earring holds 10 old mine cut diamonds totaling almost one full carat each (about .95 each for a total of 1.9 carats estimated for the pair). These old hand cut diamonds are awesome, many very rectangular in shape. Two additional round prong set old mine cuts appear at the top in front of the ear post.
With the earrings each in three parts, it allows that free movement and dangle so the diamonds can catch the light and sparkle. They have a great antique look with wonderful sparkle and elegantly classic design, it would be a beautiful something old for a bride or can be dressed up or down.
As mentioned, the old cut diamonds in the halo have a more rectangular shape, some with more pointed corners than we typically see, with almost Peruzzi like tendencies. They have crown facets that are long and triangular scissor cuts with really high crowns. (Mine cuts like the center stones typically have three rows of facets to the crown whereas these have the single row of long facets). Perhaps a combination of a French cut / Old Mine Cut ? as diamond cutters at the time used their personal knowledge, taste and expertise to enhance each diamond. It is always fun to find uniquely cut antique diamonds!
Found in England. No hallmarks remain but the earrings test at 14k, tested in several places. The push backs appear to be later / replacements. One is stamped 375 for 9k gold, the other appears to be a gold plated metal. But I decided to include them since that is how they came. I figured earring wearers would probably have plenty of other push backs at home to swap in if desired.
Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos, especially with the zoomed images that I am required to present for detail.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
They measure about 30mm top to bottom, the daisy cluster setting is 9mm in diameter.
The center diamonds are about 4.5 by 4mm each, chunky cushion cuts, with each of the outlining diamonds measuring about 2.5mm. The top old mines in front of the ear post are each about 3mm. Individual depths and shapes vary and I would never remove them from the settings for an exact measurement but each earring totals about .95 carat in diamonds for a total carat weight of 1.9 carat between the pair.
Combined weight for the pair is 3.2 grams Not including the later push backs that are not 14k gold.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Gorgeous warmth to pale yellow hue to some of the awesomely hand cut, chunky old mine cut diamonds. The larger center stones face up quite white but I always love to see the varying hues in old cut diamonds, as most of the rough diamonds at that time came from mines that produced warmer-colored diamonds, There are some nicks and frosty facets leaving an unpolished spot here or there but the individual stones are small so it is not glaring. Same with the natural inclusions we typically find. Some frosty spots and a few stones that appear frosty overall the way they reflect the light but no dark carbon and again nothing super glaring.
The largest center diamonds are super secure with long prongs surrounding each, but many of the prongs on the outlining diamonds show wear. Some wear also to the top diamond on the ear post. Earrings are by nature typically pretty gently worn (compared to rings) but on pieces of this age with multiple smaller stones, we do not recommend 24/7 wear.
Quite a bit of dark patina from age. I gave them a light polish to clean them up and make them uniform but most of my buyers prefer original patina and with the small stones I didn't want to rub them too aggressively. There are a few dark spots of tarnish remaining under magnification.
As mentioned the push backs are replacements with the 9k one being quite loose but I decided to include them anyway since that is how they came to me.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
