ABOUT:
Beautiful color and sparkle to this interesting 1800s antique ring with center green emerald cut gemstone surrounded by a double halo of 36 rose cut and single cut diamonds. The setting is unique in that is is tiered with the tourmaline raised at the center, then stepping down to the halo of single cuts, then stepping down once more to the rose cuts in silver collet settings. It's also interesting that the frame of the single cut diamonds overlaps the underlying rose cuts giving it an interesting sparkle from the background.
Found in France, this one has the ET hallmark with French counterstrike. The ET hallmark is a French mark used between 1864 and 1893 and it indicates that the piece is made outside of France at a gold purity not used in France (where the standard is always 18k). ET stands for étranger (French for foreign). It tests at 14k gold with a lovely rosy patina.
I purchased this in the French Riviera on my recent sourcing trip, the shank and back of the ring face are in 14k gold with the ring face topped in silver to hold the diamonds, the rose cuts in closed back setting and the single cuts in open. The gorgeous teal bluish green stone I suspect is a green tourmaline. It tests in the overlapping range of tourmaline and emerald, but the clarity and color lead me to tourmaline. It almost looks like it may have been converted from something else, looking at the back of the ring face.
Note the small size - makes a fun pinky ring or to discuss with your local jeweler what can be done for sizing as opinions vary.

The 36 diamonds are each 1.3 to 1.6mm so with 36 of them it should be around half a carat total weight in diamonds (exact depths and sizes vary and can't be measured precisely in the setting so this is an estimate).
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
The tourmaline is chipped at one corner but it is well masked by the large bezel that covers most of it so it is not glaring and really only noticeable if you are seeking it out. Gorgeous color and a perfect sheen and polish to the top without any major abrasions to dull the surface.
Not a single stone missing. None are loose, the piece is quite sturdy, although I always recommend gentler wear on rings with many small stones. Some solder at the shoulders where the ring face meets the gold shank. Varying warm hues to the diamonds, some of this is from age to the closed back rose cuts.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
