ABOUT:
I have a little handful of these Victorian antique diamond dangle pendants that I acquired in a grouping, these came from a broken necklace that had a chain with little diamond dangles creating a fringe, but as it was incomplete these dangles were removed.
The piece is in 18k gold with a rose cut diamond in a square diamond shaped closed back bezel leading down to an old mine cut diamond that is held in prongs in a sweet little scalloped buttercup setting. The loop at the top was very small so I added a jump ring which is 10k because it was the best color match (a new 18k gold loop would have been too vibrant and clashed with the antique patina of the piece).
A lovely minimalist pendant with linear geometry.
Found in France but no hallmarks remain. Sold to me as 18k gold from a reputable dealer and tested to confirm. I added the 10k loop.
Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Chain / props, etc. not included.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
26mm top to bottom not including the added jump ring.
The diamond is about 4mm, around .25 carat - this is an estimate as I would not remove it for exact weight.
Weight: 0.65g
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Dainty little prongs but the diamond is well surrounded and held, it does not move. I just typically recommend gentler wear for all my antique pieces due to age. The rose cut appears warm from age to the foil back. The larger old mine cut diamond is typical for the period with some natural inclusions, slightly eye visible specks. No dark carbon spots but you can detect the frostiness if you are looking for it. It has a nice color and sparkle. There are two small nibbles to the girdle of the stone. This is not eye visible but you can see the little notches under magnification, likely the result of natural inclusions reaching the edges in those two spots.
Some patina to the gold from age that we seek out as it cannot be found on modern pieces. Note that the bale is on the smaller side.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
