ABOUT:

An old cut natural ruby with the most wonderful pink glow from within is accented by a halo of rose cut diamonds in a demi collet setting. The ring face with its moody sparkle and pop of color is wonderful alone, but the setting also really adds a special uniqueness to the piece. Striking bead/ ball rivet details extend from the ring face at each shoulder, with open work fabrication to really highlight that interesting design and geometry. A great antique look to this early Victorian era piece. The settings behind the diamonds are now open backed to make it easier to wear and clean.

Found in France with their hallmark for 18k gold.

Antique box not included. Please note the detailed measurements that I always provide, as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures where I am required to show zoomed in detail.

MEASUREMENTS:
A snug Size 7 3/4
The ring face is 11x10mm. Weighs 3.1g. The ruby is 5.2x4.5mm and the diamond are each about 2-2.5mm.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

It looks like the ring originally had closed and foil backed settings behind the diamonds. These appear to have been opened likely to improve the color of the diamonds after aging to the foil often occurs. It was like this when I received it but it is always nice to find rose cuts in open backed settings so they are easier to wear and clean. Note though that the openings are small so it was difficult to really clean behind each stone. I gave it a gentle cleaning but the clarity of the rose cuts would improve even further with another gentle soak and scrubbing. As is they still have a nice antique sparkle and no muddiness or dingy rust from age.

Under magnification all the diamonds appear frosty, again much from buildup within the setting but the stones are also typical in that they have some natural inclusions. One has a chip to the inside edge. The stones appear to have been reinforced with gold between the diamonds but I always recommend gentler wear on these 150+ year old pieces with multiple small stones. The ruby has abrasions to the table facet which can catch the light but it has a beautiful glow from within.

The back of the shank is a bit blunt from age and wear.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
