Vintage .6 Carat Antique Old Mine Cut DIAMOND French Art Deco Bezel Set Ring Stacker Band 18k Gold Solitaire
Vintage .6 Carat Antique Old Mine Cut DIAMOND French Art Deco Bezel Set Ring Stacker Band 18k Gold Solitaire
ABOUT:
An eye catching vintage solitaire with an antique old cut diamond in a timeless setting. The .6 carat diamond is set in a demi bezel setting with wide, domed shoulders leading up to the ring face.
This French piece is vintage to Art Deco era with a nice geometry.
Easy to wear low profile design with a lovely comfort fit. Makes a timeless engagement ring, or layers well and adds sparkle to a ring stack. It layers really wonderfully with other pieces. And ready to be worn every day with the diamond set in the sturdy bezel. The bezel is contrasted in a white precious metal (I suspect platinum), to serve as an illusion setting to make the diamond look bigger. It was also customary in earlier times to set diamonds in a white metal as it was thought to increase their brilliance.
Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos.
MEASUREMENTS:
Size: 5 1/4, slightly over
Ring face: 4.5mm tall off the finger.
Weight: 5.2g.
The diamond is about 5.3mm and a chunky cut around .6 carat, again appearing larger with the bezel. This is an estimate as I would not remove the stone from the setting for exact measurements.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Like many old cuts, this antique diamond has some faint natural inclusions. No dark carbon spots, but when studying the stone under magnification, it has some frosty spots. There is also one very shallow flake of loss to the top edge right up against the girdle leading a tiny unpolished spot, very slightly eye visible if you are seeking it out and does not classify as a chip where it affects the shape of the stone. I also noticed when studying it under magnification that the large frosted girdle (which indicates the stone is antique) can reflect within the stone due to the way it was cut and set. All part of the unique eccentricities of antique diamonds - cut in much more limited supply compared to the millions of modern diamonds produced each year now. And the setting also makes it very interesting! A fun one to layer and stack. Sturdy piece, ready to wear.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
