ABOUT:
A chunky vintage unisex band in 18k gold with cabochon natural blue sapphire situated east to west on the sturdy setting. Sturdy hand feel and a nice dome to layer or wear alone.
Found in Paris with French hallmark for 18k gold. Also stamped 750 (the numerical stamp for 18k used in Europe), along with an 18k stamp as well inside, and a maker's mark "Mar?"
The gypsy ring was incredibly popular during the Victorian era into the early 1900s and its timeless design remains an ever favored and wearable choice for today. This ring is substantial enough to wear alone but also layers well with other pieces. Rings such as this were also a popular choice for men to wear during through these periods as well so it is a true unisex ring.
Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
MEASUREMENTS:
Size 7 1/4.
The sapphire measures 7.5 by 5.7mm oval with a nice domed top.
The ring face is 8.5mm north south and stands 4.8mm off the finger to the top of the sapphire.
The ring weight is a sturdy 9.75 grams.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
The sapphire moves and "clicks" when you tap or aggressively shake the ring but it is held well in the setting.
Natural inclusions to the sapphire that can catch the light. 2 teeny tiny nicks to the surface of the stone but a really nice glossy sheen and polish. What is seen in the photos is not scuffs or abrasions, but rather the inclusions within the stone that can catch the light.
There are no dark spots to the gold, it was just difficult to photograph because the gold reflects its surroundings. Please also note that I take some photos / videos in the sunshine because it captures the lovely color and sparkle, but it also highlights any surface wear, scratches, abrasions, buildup or inclusions that can catch the light, making these things appear worse than they would with normal day to day wear. : ) Hopefully the pics in all lightning conditions help as they serve as part of the description.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : ) There are no dark spots to the gold, it was just difficult to photograph because it is so shiny and mirrored that it reflects its surroundings including the green trees out the window.
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
