I take regularly scheduled inventory trips to Europe and around the USA to find unique antique items to bring you! My offerings were all hand picked one at a time to assemble a collection that I hope you will enjoy! Thanks for stopping by!

ABOUT:
I love finding rose cut diamond rings with open backs, just such a unique and special sparkle they emit along with their great antique look with the more primitive and freeform cuts. But this one especially drew me for the fabulous elongated pear rose cut at the center - always love finding antique diamonds in shapes outside of round!

It really draws attention to the heart of the piece. That in addition to the 1 inch north south footprint and very substantial hand feel, it's a special one! 15 diamonds in all to catch the light and sparkle.

Antique piece found in France with their hallmarks for 18k gold and platinum. The majority of the piece is in the rosy 18k gold, with platinum topped prongs as was customary for the period to set diamonds in a white metal.

Such a unique one! She's a real head turner.

Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Antique box is not included.

MEASUREMENTS:
Size 8 3/4. Should be a candidate for sizing by your local jeweler since there are no stones set into the shank so adjusting it shouldn't affect the stones in the ring face but always best to discuss with them to determine their comfort level. Usually they say within 2 sizes is a good guide for sizing but this is something to discuss with the person doing the work as opinions vary.

Difficult to estimate carat weight with the rose cuts all varying in shapes, sizes, depths etc. It really can't be well determined without removing them which I would never do. Rose cuts are always quite spready with flat backs and smaller carat weights than modern brilliants which have a pavilion below. The center stone is 7x4.5mm. The other 14 are 3 to 4mm each so the piece as a whole must certainly face up at over 2.5 carats if compared to a modern diamond or old mine cluster.

The ring face is 24mm north south by 12.6mm and stands 6.6mm tall off the finger.

The piece weighs a very sturdy 7.7grams.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

All original antique setting and stones. The stones definitely look their age - plenty of freeform shapes, primitive cuts, rough edges and frosty spots. Some of the stones have a warmth to light champagne hue. Most with a frosty inclusion here or there, a crystal speck, an unpolished edge a smaller handful with a frostier look due to larger frosty inclusions within that are eye visible, the others more slightly eye visible. The large center elongated stone has a notch to the girdle and a larger frosty edge as it was cut before the modern polishing techniques were invented. There are some nibbles on one side as well. Some nibbles to some of the other outside edge stones to their outside edges, particularly one against the shank that has an uneven edge and pulls away from the prong there but is still well set. Some of what is seen has always been that way having been cut so long ago in a much much more limited supply compared to the millions of carats of modern diamonds produced each year now.

Several prongs show wear including one to the center stone and several outside edge prongs. I think there might have been some reinforcement done though as the prong work appears irregular and each stone is well held by the other prongs, even when one is worn here and there. Nothing moving, it would just take some work to make it "like new" which we don't typically recommend doing on special antiques like this anyway, opting instead to do the minimum possible to make it wearable but keep it in as original condition as possible.

Some build up behind the diamonds on the north and south tips being hard to reach their open backs, making them appear frostier than they are. Is it just me or does the ring face seem to list to one side? I didn't notice it while wearing on the finger, but when I put it in the box, it seems so.

It is a nice shooter of rainbows indicating a good natural fire to the antique diamonds.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )

I enjoy making my customers happy and matching unique pieces with new homes. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions! It means a lot to me that you are visiting my shop! : )
