XL DRAGON Rose Cut Diamond French Antique Buttery 18k Gold Chimera Griffin Winged Lion FIGURAL Pendant Pearl Dangle Victorian Belle Epoque

Large scale and incredibly detailed pendant.

This is an antique piece from the Belle Epoque era that I acquired in France. Wonderful swirling details - so Art Nouveau! And the patina is just fantastic with satin sheen and rosy highlights seen under magnification - I love French antique gold.

This one came to me as a broken brooch so I converted it to a pendant so it can live another 100 years!

The dragon was a popular motif for the late 1800s to early 1900s period. These fantastical beasts were considered symbols of wealth and power, and worn as talismans for protection or amulets for good luck.

This one has a lattice work outline to the base with the dragon holding a pearl in its mouth and a pearl dangle below the feet. The wings are topped in white precious metal and set with tiny rose cut diamonds (1 missing).

Such an interesting conversation piece. You could also clip it to a bracelet to wear it as an ornament on the wrist.

Any props or additional items shown are not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos. This one particularly seems to show larger in photos than it actually is, they are the actual item (and my actual hand) but perspective in photos is hard : ) .

MEASUREMENTS:

42mmx41mm. It weighs 3.1grams.

MARKS:
French hallmark for 18k gold on the rim and a goldsmith stamp on the back. Also has some stamped letters on the back

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

Gorgeous glowing patina. A little buildup around the pearl. One of the smallest diamonds is missing from one wing tip but the textured gold setting helps mask that. Looks like their might have been a weld here or there when you really study it with a slight difference in hue but overall well matching and gorgeous detail. It has a lightweight hand feel with thin gold work like repoussee where the detail is pressed into the gold.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
