ABOUT:
I get a lot of requests for rose cut clusters and this one is especially special due to its large scale and its open back setting. So often rose cuts are in foiled settings which makes them a bit harder to wear in that they can't be cleaned or get wet, etc. This all original French antique has the open back with that wonderful antique sparkle and the center stone is quite clear!

The piece is in 18k gold with the diamonds set in platinum tops as was customary for the period to set the stones in a white metal. The diamonds are set in bezels, with the center stone a large oval measuring 8x6mm - which faces up like a 1.2 carat oval brilliant cut.  The piece has a whole "faces up" with the appearance of a 2.7 carat diamond ring (although carat weight of rose cuts is lower).  See more measurements below.

Super eye catching and very sparkly - a fun piece to wear! Varying depths to the diamonds - I just love the untamed, some would say moody appearance of old rose cut diamonds. With less facets they have that special antique sparkle.

My last similar ring flew off the shelf so I am excited to offer this one with even larger footprint and stones as I am not often able to source them. Found in France with their goldsmith stamps at the back and the French marks for 18k and platinum.

Comes as pictured in the antique box it came to me in.
Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.

MEASUREMENTS:
Size 6 3/4

The ring face is 20mm north south by 15mm wide and 6.8mm tall off the finger.
Exact carat weight is unknown as I would never remove the stones from the antique setting. They are not all perfectly round and the depth of each is varied.

The center diamond is 8x6mm. The next largest at the north and south ends are about 4.7mm each. The other eight outlining diamonds are 3mm each give or take.

Like most rose cuts these have a lower comparative carat weight than a modern stone, but the surface area gives it the appearance of a larger carat stone. If these were brilliant cuts with pavilions below the stones, it would be about 2.7 carat total weight in diamonds so that gives you an idea of how it "faces up" size wise., compared to a brilliant cut cluster ring. Again the actual carat weight is less with the flat backs of the rose cuts.

The ring weight is 5.2 grams.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Many more images can be found on my website.

These rose cut clusters with open backs are difficult to find which is why I jumped on it when I saw it. The center stone has a few needle inclusions and a faint shadow inclusion but is for the most part eye clean with a bright white color - there is very little warmth to any of the stones in the ring which we often find on natural diamonds of this age. You might be able to seek out some of the faint inclusions especially in direct sun which can highlight them, but the nice sized center stone has no damage and a better than most clarity for antique diamonds. However the outlining diamonds show some wear. If they were in better shape, I'd be listing this for more but I always study each piece and take all those things into account so please seek these notes out in the photos which zoom the stones much more than what would be seen to the eye while wearing.

One stone on the north / south edge has a chip to the girdle making it slightly out of round and leaving a small gap between the edge of the stone and the bezel. It's not super glaring because the prongs and metal work help mask that, but that area is also quite frosty at that edge so that is something to look for in the photos. Two smaller stones have nibbles around the girdles leaving a rough edge, mostly always the outside edge. They also have some natural inclusions and frosty spots, frosted girdles and uneven and non uniform cuts. They most often look this way on rose cut pieces of this age. It is nice that none of the stones appear frosty all the way through or have glaring carbon, most of what we see is around the outline of the stones with the lighter frosty inclusion here or there. There are plenty of platinum bead prongs but some show wear so I always recommend gentler wear on these rings with multiple stones and the daintier bead prongs. But none of the stones move and the center stone is secure in a bezel.

Please also note that I take some photos / videos in the sunshine because it captures the lovely color and sparkle, but it also highlights any surface wear, scratches, abrasions, buildup or inclusions that can catch the light, making these things appear worse than they would with normal day to day wear. : ) Hopefully the pics in all lightning conditions help as they serve as part of the description.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : ) There are no dark spots to the gold, it was just difficult to photograph because it is so shiny and mirrored that it reflects its surroundings including the green trees out the window.
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
