ABOUT:
Gorgeous and large scale glossy, deep crimson red cabochon garnet that is being held in its gold bezel accented with a halo of seed pearls in silver topped collets. This Victorian antique ring has a fun surprise in that when removed from the finger, we can see the fabulous engraved ring butt (as we call it in the trade) with floral, lattice and swirl details. Ornate ring shoulders amongst all the wonderful details. Also appealing in that the garnet is in such good shape with such a juicy sheen and polish.
Found in Belgium, no hallmarks remain but sold to me from a reputable source as 18k and tested to confirm.
Antique box is not included. Please note the detailed measurements that I always provide, as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures where I am required to show zoomed in detail.
MEASUREMENTS:
Size 8 1/2. The shank appears somewhat oval so I think it was sized up in the past with gold added to the back where the engraved details end. Very large garnet at 17x11mm. It stands 9mm off the finger with the large dome on the garnet. The ring face is 21 by 15mm. It weighs a very sturdy 7 grams.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Patina from age to the pearls, they are warm to gray in color. Two or three have a crack or some crazing but all are complete and held in the silver collets. The garnet is in exceptional condition. Very deep red in color and appears quite dark face on, with the inner glow mostly seen when you turn it to the side so you can look through the stone where the lighter red appears.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
